What Is The Stack-Magic The Gathering
MTG is one of my favorite games, but learning all there is to it can be hard and takes time. In this post I will be trying to explain how the stack works in MTG. If you are trying to learn how to play MTG check out my other blog post here. The stack is the order in which spells and abilities resolve/get cast/happen in MTG. For example when someone casts a spell and an instant is then cast in response, which happens first. The best way to think about the stack is a pile of papers, whenever a spell is cast you put another paper on the pile, and once no new spells are added to the stack they get resolved in the order they are in from the top of the pile to the bottom. The weird part is that while these spells and abilities are resolving, you may again, cast a spell or use an ability in response to one of the spells on the stack. One example of when this might happen is if you play a counter spell, and your opponent counters your counter spell, their spell resolves first which negates your spell allowing their original spell to resolve.
