Pickle Ball

Pickle ball is a game played by two teams of two people. It is played on a pickle ball court Which looks like this:

Pickle ball is played with small paddles and a wiffle ball, the first team to get to eleven points wins, but you must win by two points. Every time you serve the ball you must first say the score, you do this by announcing your score, then your opponents score, and finally what server you are, one or two. The first serve of the game is 0-0-2 because you only get one person to serve. The server continues to serve until they lose a serve/point, but you can only get points on your serve. This means if I serve and get a point I would add one to my score, but if you get the point when I serve it just switches servers, so if I’m server 1 it goes to server 2, but if I am 2 it goes to the other team. When you serve you must be standing behind your square, and you must have the paddle below your waist and below your wrist. It must also go in the square diagonal from you, so if you are on the bottom right you must serve to the top left, if it lands out, in the wrong square or in the kitchen you lose the serve (the rectangular area closest to the net is called “the kitchen”). When you serve and get a point you and your teammate switch squares, but that’s only if you served it. After the server the other team must let the ball bounce before returning it over the net, then you must let it bounce, if you hit it before the bounce on the first two hits you lose the point. You also cant ever hit the ball while standing in the kitchen unless it bounced, this means you should try your best to stay out of the kitchen and only go in if the ball bounces in it.

Dixit

Dixit is a card game played by 3-6 players, the first person to get 30 points wins. To start the game give everyone 6 cards from the deck and assign each player a color. Give them the tiles (1-6) of their color. Every card has a different image on it, on each round one person will say a word or sentence describing a card they have in their hand and place the card face down. Each player will then place a card from their hand that fits the players description. Then shuffle the cards and place them face up, everyone will vote on which card they think was put in by the person who gave the clue. If some people guessed that person’s card, but not everyone, they get 3 points, if everyone or no one guessed their card, they get 0 points. Because of this you can’t make your clue too obvious or too vague. Everyone who guessed their card also gets 1 point, and anyone whose card was guessed and didn’t give the clue gets 1 point.

Here are a few of the many cards in Dixit (hover on image to view):

Codenames

Codenames is a game usually played with four people in teams of two. Your goal is to help your teammate correctly guess words by giving them clues, without them accidently guessing your opponents words. Whichever team guesses all their words first wins. The game starts by setting up a 5×5 grid of cards, each card has one word on it. Then one person from each team looks at a card (they both look at the same card) that says which of the cards on the grid are their words, which are their opponents words, which are neutral, and the one word that is a bomb! The two people looking at this card will take turns giving their teammate clues to guessing the words. When giving a clue you may say any one word that is not on one of the cards, and then a number. The number is how many cards you think your clue works for, and how many your teammate can guess.

Guessed card Result
If your teammate correctly guesses your card Put your color marker on it and they may continue guessing
If they guess your opponent’s card Put their marker on it and end the guessing
If they guess a neutral card Put a grey marker on it and end the guessing
If they guess the bomb Your team looses the game automatically

Scattergories

How To Play Scattergories

Scattergories is a game where you answer questions in a short period of time competing against your friends. Every round you will deicide what set of questions you all will be answering. Then you roll the letter die, whatever letter you get, must be the first letter in the words that everyone uses to answer their questions. Then flip the hourglass and begin writing down your answers to the six questions, remember, all your answers must begin with the letter you rolled. You have until the hour glass runs out to answer the questions. After everyone writes their answers you compare to everyone else, if any two people wrote the same answer to a question, they don’t get the points for that question, that means you can get 0-6 points every round. At the end of the game add up all your scores from the rounds, the person who got the most points wins.

Here is an example of some of the questions on the cards:

Beginner’s Guide to Spades

Baisics

Spades is a card game played by four people in teams of two. Your objective is to get 500 points before the other team. Every round the dealer will deal 13 cards to each player (the whole deck) and players will begin to bid starting left of the dealer. You bid the number of rounds you think you will win, AKA tricks. After all players have bid the person to the left of the dealer plays a card and the other people must play a card that has the same suit as that card. If someone doesn’t have a card with the same suit they may play any card. Then the person with the highest card wins the round AKA trick, and they take the four cards. The only cards that can not be played first in a round are the spades, spades can not lead until they have been broken. This means you cant play them first unless someone has already played them in a previous round, if they didn’t have the suit that someone led with. At the end of a round to see who takes a trick, spades are higher than any other suit, so even if there is an ace of hearts, a two of spades would win the trick.

Scoring

At the end of every round you and your partner will score your points together. If you both got a total of less tricks than you both bid you loose 10x the number that you both bid. A bid of nil, AKA 0, counts as -100 if you get a single trick. If you and your partner get more than you bid, you get that many bags. Bags are 1 point, but if you get 10 bags you loose 100 points, so when bidding you want to be precise, because there are consequences for overbidding, and underbidding.

Ark Survival Evolved

When Starting The Game

When you start in Ark, you will spawn somewhere in the map that correlates to were you chose your spawn point, you will look at the crystal in your arm and then have control over your character, or survivor. In order to survive you will need to start farming resources to craft items, in the beginning of the game you can do this by punching trees to harvest wood and thatch, picking up stones from the ground, or harvesting berries and fiber from bushes. After doing that you can craft a stone pick in your inventory, to use it equip in to your hop bar, and click the corresponding button to pull it out. A stone pick will allow you to harvest large rocks for lots of flint and some stone, and let you harvest lots of thatch and some wood from trees, in addition if you use it to harvest body of dead dinosaur you will get lots of meat and a little hide. Once you have flint you will be able to craft a hatchet, a bow and arrows and more(hatchets have the opposite effect of pick axes, for example you get more stone less flint and more wood but less thatch). During all of this you will be receiving levels that help make your survivor stronger and let you unlock more engrams that let you craft more things, you can access these levels from your inventory.

Taming Dinosaurs

Once you have a mortar and pestle you can use it to craft narcotics using rotten meat and narcotic berries. You can use the narcotic to craft tranquilizer arrows which are used to knock out dinosaur. Once you knock out a dinosaur it will tell you to put food into its inventory, and after a while it will be tamed. Before knocking a dinosaur out you should keep in mind that some dinosaur are passive tames which mean they must be awake in order to be tamed, if you are ever unsure you can check dododecks.com, it has information on every dinosaur. It can tell you how to tame it, and what food it eats. Latter in the game you will also have other forms of knocking out dinosaur, for example you can use a long-neck rifle to shoot tranquilizer darts.

Loot Drops

Throughout the game you will see beacons of different colors spawning all around the map. Those beacons contain good loot, anything from good items to blueprints to craft items. There are 6 different color drops that can spawn, white/rainbow, green, blue, purple, yellow and red, each has a different level requirement to be opened. In order to open white/rainbow crates you need to be level 3, level 15 for green, 25 for blue, 35 for purple, 45 for yellow and level 60 for red. The higher the level you need to be, the better loot you will get. In addition the loot you get from these drops can have increased damage, for example you could get a pump action shot gun that does 200% damage, or even a blueprint for one with 200% damage so you can always craft them.

Later In The Game

Later in the game you will be able to tame dinosaurs that can make farming materials easier. Some of the best dinosaurs for farming basic resources are:

  • Ankylosaurus for metal and flint
  • Castoroides for wood
  • Doedicurus for stone
  • Brontosaurus for thatch
  • Therizinosaurus for fiber

You will also be able to craft new structures that can fake crating faster and more cost efficient. A few examples of this are industrial forges and chemistry benches. Although they can be very hard to craft because of the resources they require, industrial forges and chemistry benches will eventually replace your refining forges and mortar and pestles. Industrial forges are a much faster alternative to making metal rather than using a refining forge, and chemistry benches allow you to craft items you would normally craft in a mortar and pestle with much less cost and much less time. If you want more information on what dinosaurs are good at farming what resources, check out dododex.com

Unlocking Tek

Unlocking tek tier items is one of the last things you will do in the game, to unlock tek engrams you must kill a boss, their are many bosses and they all unlock different tek engrams when you kill them. When doing a boss fight you are only allowed to bring 20 tames in with you, so you want them all to have fairly good stats to hae the best chance of killing a boss. Most people bring a yutyrannus along with 19 or so rexes. The yutyrannus has an ability thatlets your other tames do more damgage, so it will increase the damage of all your rexes when in the fight. After killing the boss you will receive some element, and unlock the tek engrams, element is used to craft and power tek items.

I suggest you check out the game as it is very fun and if you want to know more about the game check out my other post on ark here.

Ark Survival Evolved

Ark Survival Evolved is a survival based PvE and/or PvP game set in prehistoric times. You start with nothing but your bare hands and work until you have futuristic technology, all the while you are taming dinosaurs to help you survive and get resources. Ark has public servers made mainly for PvP but also has private servers so that you can play PvE by yourself. When starting a new server in ark you will be asked to create a survivor, this is where you can customize and name your character. After that you can chose your spawn location based on difficulty (easy to hard.) Then you will wake up somewhere near the spawn location you chose, in order to survive you will need to learn how to gather resources, craft tools and structure, kill and tame dinosaurs, and more. As you continue to play you will level up your character unlocking the ability to craft new and better things, and make your character stronger. When playing in a public server you will also have the ability to create or join a tribe allowing you to work with other players and accomplish your goals faster. Ark is a great game and I suggest you try it out sometime.
